Papertrey Ink November Release Countdown Day 2

For day 2 of the countdown, I'm showcasing the new Build-a-Hat dies. This adorable set includes dies for the hat base and many extras to customize it. I made a card, some tags, and a felt ornament with this set.

With all the extra dies included, you can add stripes and faux stitching detail plus pick from two styles of pom pom toppers. There's even a die that cuts a row of slits to create a weave design element like I've done on the snow days hat.

The hat turns out to be a good size at 4.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide. The card I made is A2 size and it fills the space nicely.

The tags are a hinged style that open up like a card. The solid color and patten paper I used for the card and tags comes from the Merry 6x8 paper pad from Scrapbook.com.  I loved the fun color palette of pale aqua, pink, and red but there's so many other color and pattern combinations I'd like to try for these.

I got out my sewing machine to make the felt ornament below. The dies easily cut through felt and the size is perfect for ornaments. I used a hot glue gun to add the stripes and snowflake embellishment. This was fairly quick and easy to make so I have a feeling I'll be whipping up a few more of these little hats for gifts.

Scrappy Tails Crafts Winterscape Pop Up Card & Early Black Friday Sale

Hello everyone! I'm sharing a very fun wintery pop-up card I've created with some new dies from Scrappy Tails Crafts. I have posted a reel over on my Instagram account showing this pop-up in action. The card does fold up nicely so it's totally mailable and perfect for someone special on the nice list.

There is a discounted bundle offered for a limited time in the Scrappy Tails shop that includes the dies I've used for this card. -->click here for the Winterscape A7 Tripfold Pop Up Bundle<--

If you've never made a pop up scene like this, don't be intimidated. These sets really make it easy to do! Here's a list of all the die sets I've used:

A7 Trifold Pop Up Card Base dies - This set includes the dies to make the large arched shape for the back, the bottom base piece, plus tabs and bridges to create a pop up scene. Be sure to check out this video Sabrina posted over on the Scrappy Tails YouTube channel. She shows how to make a pop up similar to this and the trifold pop up version.

Winterscape Trees & Deer dies - for the deer, pine trees, and winter wishes sentiment

Winterscape Deer Silhouettes dies - for the smaller white trees

A7 Fall Tree Pop Up Card dies - for the arch way with large white trees in background plus snowdrifts

Below is a look at the card folded up. It slides right in to a slimline envelope.

Below are my creative notes and a few other supplies I used to make this card.

I used a limited color palette for this scene. The base pieces and bare trees are Neenah 110lb Classic Crest card stock. The background is kraft that I have frosted with white pigment ink. The pine trees are two shades of Concord & 9th card stock - Juniper and Rainforest. The deer are a dark kraft from American Crafts. I used Copic markers to darken the antlers and hooves.

I've splattered the trees and background with thinned white paint to give this scene a very snowy look. I also added Rock Candy Distress Glitter to areas on the trees and snowbanks.

I had some small clay snowflake shapes so I decided to add a few of those randomly throughout the scene.

Thanks for stopping by today. Any questions, just drop them in the comments. And if there's any older Scrappy Tails sets on your wishlist, now is the time to shop their early Black Friday sale through the 25th. Click here to shop!

Papertrey Ink November Release Countdown

Hello everyone! I'm thrilled to be joining Papertrey Ink this month to help showcase all the new goodies from the November Release. This month's release includes mostly winter themed products with some holiday and New Years mixed in.

My card today features images from The Bigs Winter Sentiments Stamp Set. This set has coordinating dies to cut out all the images and large sentiments.

This card is A2 size and all Papertrey Ink supplies I used are listed below.

The Bigs Winter Sentiments & coordinating dies - for the snowman, holly, and snowflake images plus the "let it snow" sentiment.

North Pole Mail: Postage Stamp Frame dies - I used the middle size die in the set for the pink mat

Cornered Snowflakes dies - for the intricate snowflake die cut detail on the green background mat

PTI cardstock colors: Sweet Blush & Ocean Tides

PTI ink colors: Sweet Blush, Mint Julep, Pinefeather, Scarlet Jewel, & Orange Zest

The grey ink that I used to stamp the sentiment, snowflake, and add shading to the snowman is Catherine Pooler Twillight. For the shading on the snowman, I used a small sponge dauber to lightly tap some of the grey ink onto the stamp.

To get a two toned effect (on snowflake & holly leaves) I used the small sponge daubers again to apply the ink in select spots on the stamps. For example, on the holly, I inked up the image with Mint Julep and stamped normally. Then I applied Pinefeather with the sponge dauber and stamped again.

Be sure to check back here tomorrow. I will have more projects to share showcasing a super fun new stand alone die set. It's one of my favs from this release!

Sunny Studio Warmest Winter Wishes

Hello everyone! Today I'm sharing a 4.5 inch square card design for Sunny Studio. My card features the adorable bear image from Holiday Hugs and a fun way to add a greeting over top a cable knit background.

I love a good textured background on my cards. The only catch is, you can't stamp a greeting onto these types of background. There's an easy solution for this problem... stamp the greeting onto a die cut banner which can then be adhered anywhere on the background. Sunny Studio has four different banner styles to choose from. The one I'm using for this card is the Brilliant Banner 4 dies. The curved banner design fits perfectly right over the bear. I used a Misti to stamp the words onto the banner. I did bend the stamps slightly to match the curve of the banner.

Here are the other Sunny Studio supplies used to create this card:

-Stitched Square Die (I used the largest die in the set)

-Cable Knit Embossing Folder (I embossed the texture onto pink card stock, then used a white pigment ink pad and swiped the pad across the embossed panel. This technique highlights the raised part of the cable knit design.)

-Holiday Hugs Stamp Set and coordinating dies (for polar bear and mug images plus warmest winter wishes word stamps)

-Snowflake Circle Frame Die (for snowflake embellishments die cut from white glitter card stock)

Copic used for coloring: scarf - RV42, R22, G17, G29; bear - N0, N2, N4, N6, R00; mug - G02, G09, G17, E25, R24

Spellbinders Stitched Felt Reindeer and Candy Cane

Hello everyone! I have some really fun felt projects to share today. I recently received some new Spellbinders dies included in the Felt Stitch & Create Collection by Nichol Spohr. These stitching dies create some of the cutest felt plushies you ever did see!

For today's projects I used the Felt Candy Cane die set and Felt Reindeer die set

I love the size of these. The reindeer measures about 6.5 inches tall and the candy cane is about 5.5 inches tall. They would so be so cute on a tiered tray or incorporated into a wreath or simply used as ornaments.

I won't go into much detail about how to make these because Nichol has posted videos on her YouTube channel showing the process. I recommend watching them if you're new to stitching felt plushies. I followed many of her tips when I made these and they turned out so adorable!

Full disclosure, they are a labor of love! These are not difficult to make but they will take some time. After I had all the pieces cut out, I picked out something to watch on my iPad and got to stitching.

Spellbinders offers some great felt sheet bundles. The felt I used is from two of those bundles and I'll list them below.

For reindeer:

Here are a few tips when assembling the reindeer: I lightly stuffed the body and head with poly fiber fill. Don't overfill or you can stress the stitches. I used a hot glue gun with a fine tip nozzle to adhere the cheek blush circles and hooves. I die cut four antlers pieces and glued two together for each antler. This makes them a bit more sturdy. Otherwise they would flop over.

Here are the felt colors I used for the Candy Cane:

  • pink and red - 100% Merino Wool Warm Collection
  • green - 100% Merino Wool Neutral Collection
  • I again used my hot glue gun to adhere the holly, berries, and twine bow after the candy cane was fully stitched.

If you have any questions, please drop them in the comments. If you are new to felt stitching, I know these may look intimidating to make, but trust me when I say they are worth the time and effort!
